The Duomo is the symbol of Florence and its terracotta
dome or Cupola can be seen from miles around. Indeed such is the Duomo's
importance that no other building in Florence is allowed to be taller
than it. However, the dome was almost never built as the engineers
of the time pondered how to build such a huge roof... in the end Brunelleschi
found the solution and built one of the most remarkable landmarks
the world has seen.
